Quality Assurance and Quality Control of Radon Testing
Island Radon Testing conducts their professional radon measurement testing under the guidelines set by: — Health Canada — C-NRPP (Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program) — CARST (Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technicians)
On top of these guidelines, Island Radon Testing follows a strictly developed program of quality assurance and quality control to make sure the testing results you receive are as accurate as possible.
Long Term Radon Testing
Duplicate Test Kits – Minimum of 10% of long-term radon measurement tests
A minimum of 10% of our long-term testing kits are done as duplicate tests. (some homes will have two test kits installed 10cm apart from each other) Both kits are sent for lab analysis as different long-term tests to determine the precision of the testing falls within industry standards of deviation. These duplicate kits ensure that the radon test kits used are providing proper reading and the precision of the testing is as accurate as possible and within manufacturer’s specifications. Island Radon Testing will share these results below as duplicate test results come back from the laboratory.
Field Blanks and Storage Blanks – 5% of long-term radon measurement tests for field blanks
Island Radon Testing utilizes both field blanks and storage blanks to ensure the radon testing kit installed in your home isn’t exposed to elevated levels of radon prior to the installation and testing in your home. Guidelines established by C-NRPP and CARST state that field blanks are to be utilized to ensure laboratory tests are accurate as the second kit won’t be opened until the end of the long-term test. Storage blanks will be run whenever the storage area for testing kits is changed. This test is conducted to check background radon levels that the storage of test kits isn’t interfering with test results.
Short term Radon Testing for Real Estate
The Corentium Pro continuous radon monitor doesn’t require lab analysis after each test, which allows for a fast turnaround time for testing results. The monitor does require a yearly calibration from the manufacturer. There is a cross check required every six months using another calibrated C-NRPP approved continuous radon monitor or an electret ion chamber. That test is run for a minimum of 48 hours with both devices set-up side by side within 10 to 20cm of each other. Those results will be shared below when conducted in June of 2026.
